Ceramic Coating Aftercare: How to Keep Your Car Looking New in the Inland Empire

You just invested in a ceramic coating, and your car has never looked better. Now the question is how to keep it that way.

The good news: a coated car is much easier to maintain than an uncoated one. But a few simple habits make a big difference in how long your coating looks its best, especially with Inland Empire sun, dust, and hard water.

The First Week: Let It Cure

Your coating needs time to fully harden after installation. We'll give you the exact cure time for your specific coating. In general, during the first week:

• Don't wash the car with soap or chemicals.
• Avoid sprinklers and parking where water will sit on the car.
• Remove bird droppings gently with a soft, damp microfiber towel as soon as you spot them.
• Keep it out of the rain when possible. If it does get wet, gently dry it.

How to Wash a Ceramic Coated Car

Once your coating has cured, washing is easier than ever. Follow these steps for the best results:

• Wash in the shade. In Rancho Cucamonga summers, washing in direct sun causes soap and water to dry on the paint and leave spots. Early morning or evening is best.
• Rinse first. Loosen and remove as much dirt as possible before touching the paint.
• Use a pH-neutral car soap. Harsh or high-alkaline soaps can wear down your coating over time.
• Use the two-bucket method. One bucket for soapy water, one for rinsing your wash mitt, so you're not dragging dirt back across the paint.
• Wash top to bottom with a clean microfiber mitt, saving the dirtiest lower panels and wheels for last.

What to Avoid

Don't Forget Wheels and Glass

If you added wheel or glass coating, the same rules apply. Rinse brake dust off your wheels regularly with a pH-neutral cleaner, and avoid harsh acid-based wheel cleaners. Coated glass sheds water on its own, so you'll use your wipers less in the rain.
